How to create a foreign language font?

I have tried to create a new font in a foreign language. I have the vectorized the shapes of my letters and I was able to export it in .ttf. Then, I can access to all the regular Latin characters (a,b,c, ect) by selecting "Latin Basic" but not special characters (like Γ,Σ,Ψ,Ω,Π, ect) by selecting "Greek". It says that it doesn't support symbol fonts even though I have check the symbol font box. I don’t know what else to do. Is there a solution for that kind of problem? Thanks,

  • Are you using a dedicated font editing application to generate the font files? CorelDRAW has very basic capabilities of exporting artwork in TrueType format. Building a typeface that supports multiple languages and character ranges (such as Latin, Greek and Cryllic alphabets) requires the use of a font editor such as FontLab Studio that can place all of those glyphs in their proper Unicode assigned spaces. Applications like FontLab can also make use of custom alternate characters, such as having a couple or more versions of a capital "A" in a typeface. Normally these kinds of complex typefaces are generated as OpenType fonts.
