We receive 3rd party files quite often. We don't send them straight to print without checking them first. Received a particular troublesome one yesterday that I'd like to find out exactly how it was done wrong.
4fth x 8ftw "banner" in pdf format. Import to coreldraw and it takes forever to come in. I see along the bottom of the banner a row of grass approx 4" high. Each blade of grass is vector with various shades of green. I see also the each blade has it's own drop shadow. Here's where the trouble is. Each shadow is 4'x8' and 300dpi.That's over 450 shadows images @ 300dpi! WTH! The shadows should only be slightly larger than the blades of grass not 4x8. I tried to replicate this using both corel & illustrator but each time I save as pdf the shadows DO NOT BECOME 4x8! I assumed the file was produced with illustrator but maybe it wasn't at all.
Thoughts or insight?
p.s. I got what I needed from the file. Turns out I only needed the vector logo and for whatever reason, probably lack of design skills, the client sent this full "banner" layout.
The pdf properties should have the application that created it listed.
Weird issue! Never seen such a thing re the drop shadows.
I knew it!
Ha hah!
If the drop shadows are all the same offset and intensity, it's possible the DS was added to the group. But even if so, it would be interesting to inspect the original pdf to see if Illy's pdf routine created that mess or CD's import routine.
I can open in illustrator and I see another odd box way beyond what the "artboard" boundaries are. I can't select it by itself but when I do a select all it grabs it. Tried marquee selecting just what's on the artboard then deleting it. Select all & delete delete the box. Then I paste the art back in and save as pdf. Same bad result. Create a new doc with the artboard a couple of inches bigger than the art then paste and save as pdf and BAM It's as expected it should be. What could that box be. Here I have the artboard tool selected
Dunno. New one for me. Seems like a rectangle that is maybe being used as a clipping box. But weird. Glad you figured out a work-around some demented designer's file!
Figured out the box. It's actually read as "guides" but simply deleting them doesn't help.
