Does anyone know how to change b & w clip art color? I don't want to fill the background or object, I just want to change all black lines to a different color. I feel like an idiot because I have tried and cannot figure it out. Many thanks.

The first thing to determine is if your image is a bitmap or vector shapes.
Sometimes websites show bitmaps as being clipart, most artists expect clipart to be vector shapes.
If your shape is a bitmap, then:
1. change your color mode to RGB if it isn't
Image | convert to RGB
2. use "color mask" tool in mask menu to select the black area. Press Reset in the dialog, use eyedropper to select black in image. leave dialog, area should be masked.
3. right-click on color in palette that you want
4. Menu:
Edit | Fill

Mary, Jeff and Ed gave you great advice if you are working with a bitmap.
If by chance, you already have a vector image, it may be that all you need to do is ungroup the image.
When you select your piece of clipart, what does your Status Bar say?
If it says "group of ? objects", then go to Arrange, Break Group apart.
You should then be able to go back and select the areas that you want to re-color.
Nice design. Did you create it?
Nah, Michael. I'm more or less, a clip-art Princess. <sigh> Spend a good part of my day moving nodes around.
Since we were talking about coloring clip-art............I thought it might be okay to use some actual clipart. LOL
