Photo-Paint X3 not working

Hi

I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this has already been asked (not had chance to lok around yet). I have Photo-Paint X£ as part of DRAWings X3 which includes Corel Graphics Suite X3 and Drawstitch* (*an embroidery digtising software program). I have been using Photo-Paint alot with otherdesign software and it has recently been working very intermittently - sometimes it loads and at others it won't. I have un-installed the Graphocs sute and re-installed it and re-booted my laptop several times (I run Windows 8.1). I know it's an old program now but it does the things I need it to so I'm reluctant to get something else. Can anyone suggest what to do to permanently fox this prpblem please? Any help would be greatfully receive. Thanks

  • Hi MKLiz,

If you depend on the software for a living (work) you should have the best tools to work with. I still have an old Gateway with win95 and some cool programs on it including the original Draw version 6, however, for work purposes I use the latest technology, i7, 16gigs ram, ssd, 2018Draw.

If it worked better in the past perhaps you need to clean up your machine. Things like temp files, cookies, search bars, etc. having lots of that stuff can slow you down and mess with programs.

    Good luck,

    • Hi Bob

Thanks for your reply. (Fortunately) I'm retired and a 'hobbyist' so I don't have to worry about work related issues which is part of the reason I'm reluctant to buy more up to date software especially if I can fix the bugs on the ones I have already.  I'll have a look at my machine and see if a 'clean up' helps. I do have LOADS of design type programs and I know things are slower than they should be. I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps old machinery for various old programs :)

      • I have DOS programs on my win95 I done years ago and don't want to loose or redo. Holding down the F8 key when you launch Draw will reset the program to factory settings, just click OK when asked. If you have any personal settings save them to a different folder before you do this. Might help.

        • Hi Bob

Thanks for the tip about the F8 key. 2 questions:

Will using the F8 key to reset Draw just affect this program and leave my other programs/settings unaltered? (I've stopped my laptop from updating to Windows 10 because of compatabilty issues with older programs - currently running Windows 8.1.)

Can I use the F8 key to reset any program if I have problems?

          Many thanks, regards,

          MKLiz

          • Hi MKLiz,

The F8 is associated with Draw when Draw is launched and will reset just that program to factory settings and nothing else. It's a Draw thing, not a machine thing.

            • Thanks Bob - I'm afraid I'm a bit of a dinosaur regarding computers. I read and I try but alot of the tech stuff goes over my head, it's literally another language :)  I really appreciate it when someone takes the time to explain things in a 'simple' manner without making me feel dumb - thank you.  Regards, Liz
