i cant find the common shape tool

it s the first time i work with coreldraw, i wanted to use an arrow, but i don't have the common shape tool

  • Select fly-out menu from polygon tool icon, then "Common shapes" then select the shape from the top

      • My common shapes tool is completely missing from my Corel 2019 application. I only realized this when I went to create an arrow and couldn't find any option for it. My coworkers all have theirs but mine is missing, not just grayed out or unavailable. Has anyone had this issue and corrected it?

        • Sounds like a corrupt (imported?) workspace.
Right click the toolbox, then from the pop up menu Customize > Toolbox Toolbar > Reset to default.

          • after uninstalling and reinstalling was done by our system admin, and I started from scratch and made a whole new workspace, the issue is still persistent (and is not the only one, go figure). Is there a good way to gut my machine of any traces of my old workspace/ setup/ configurations for Corel? Or in your experience does the uninstall also clear all of those types of issues out as well?

            • What you showed in your screenshot looks like what I see if I activate the "Page Layout" workspace.

The Common Shapes command is not present in the Page Layout workspace. If you like using that particular workspace, but you also want Common Shapes, then you could add it using workspace customization.

If you activate the Default workspace, then Common Shapes should already be there in that flyout.

              • Hi, I have this same issue, and I do not have a default workspace option. Really need those common shapes to come back. Where do you find the default workspace option. My options are AI, Illustration, Lite, Page Layout and Touch. Thank you.

That's not a problem that I have ever experienced personally.

For a start, I would suggest that you look at the folder where your workspaces are stored. For me, with the username "eskimo", that folder is: C:\Users\eskimo\AppData\Roaming\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2019\Draw\Workspace.

Your "AppData" folders are normally hidden in Windows. A shortcut way to get to your AppData\Roaming folder is to enter %appdata% into the navigation bar in Windows File Explorer, and then navigate further down from there.

When you get to the folder where those workspace .CDWS files are stored, see if there is one there named _default.cdws.

If there is a file there with that name, then try deleting it (do this with CorelDRAW not open). Then, start CorelDRAW.

The normal behavior is that, if that file is deleted, CorelDRAW automatically creates a new copy the next time it is started.

                  • Eskimo, Thanks. I had the same problem of missing shapes and stars. I reset to default workspace. I know not why I was on the page layout workspace or how I managed to get there

                  • I am having the same problem with 2019.

I always use the heart and arrow tools and they have disappeared form toolbar

                    • Please read through the previous replies and try the suggested answers.
Come back with more details if it still doesn't work.

                      • Hello!  Did you find an answer to the missing basic shapes?

                        • Hi I'm having the same problem, but I did the deletion of the _default.cdws file while Corel was closed, and it didn't fix the problem. Any other ideas of how to get those tools back? I had been using them all along, and they just disappeared when my computer restarted itself yesterday.  I have Windows set to not update itself without my permission, as it ruins the performance of my RIP software, so it shouldn't have been an update within Windows or anything.

                          • Very strange AKSThomp.

Try to export your workspace first (if it is customized), and then switch to the default workspace to see if it appears.
If it does, maybe you can start from there and import the important parts of your workspace into the default and save with a new name.

If it doesn't appear, try any of the other workspaces.
If it still is missing, I'm afraid you'll have to reinstall (try "Repair" first).

                            • In the toolbox, click the Common Shapes tool .

Open the Perfect Shapes picker on the property bar, and click a shape.

Drag in the drawing window until the shape is the size you want.

Like other shapes, shapes that are drawn from the Perfect Shapes picker can be modified.
