I use the Symbol Library like I breath oxygen. I have hundreds of everyday symbols. I use symbols on my office PC and my home PC. Now usually there isn't a problem but for some reason my home PC will no longer load any symbols in the symbols docker. I don't know what happened. It shows the folder I selected by nothing underneath.
Just a word of warning re symbols. I'm still using 2018 but I'm guessing this is a long standing bug. If you have a csl file as a Network resource and you have a document with symbols from that file (Corel call it a library) , if you then edit the library file the changes do not percolate through to the existing symbols. Indeed its worse than that, if you have an instance of a symbol on a page and that symbol in the library has been edited deliberately, when you drag an instance of the new symbol from the docker, the newly edited symbol will match the symbol already on the page. You have to delete the library and reload it.
I lost hours investigating this.
Oh and why if a symbol has been scaled and you want to revert it to the original stored in the library, is Update From Link always greyed out!.
On my system if a saved symbol is places it has a locked symbol in the docker, you can right click break link edit it without changing the save symbol. The new changed symbol appears at the top of the symbol docker mine got named for the file.
This is interesting but it appears that to have complete control over the symbols they each need to be saved on a drive as their own file. Then they can be added to a file, the link broken, the master (which becomes a document master) can be edited without affecting the stored symbol allows for the new symbol as well as the old symbol to be accessed from the symbol docker.
That sounds really useful. Here's a question. Is it possible to revert all symbols to objects across all pages?
As you can see Mek has a macro. In my semi-retired world I have time to explore features that in the past I've only moderately used so I'm going to explore the symbols in more detail.
The interest I have is with the multi page view in the pages docker, symbols seem more versatile than clones but I understand both sides of the linked library argument. I don't know if the could build in a reload library feature into the docker or not.
I like it as it is as my past use for symbols has been in creating maps and way finding materials.
I believe the macro is your only choice.
