Changing text into a shape

I've seen a lot of discussion regarding shaping text around a shape (like a circle). What I can't seem to find is how to make the text into a shape such as this:

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

This is just an example - I'd also like to do diamonds, stars, etc.

Thanks,

Randy

  • Just go the Interactive Envelope tool on the tool box, or press Cnt+F7 and choose preset with the text selected, u can also fit it into the custom shapes too

    • Randy, this is a visual that I posted on a different forum, asking about a similar question.

If you decide to use the Envelope tool, converting your text to curves, will enable you to tweak the shapes and make them fit better into your object.

      • I tried the options mentioned here and what I get is:

this seems like it's wrapping around a ball, rather than fitting in a circle. What am I missing?

        • Try using an unconstrained Envelope, move the nodes to form  a circular shape, and see if you like that better.

Tell you the truth, especially if you only want to use straight line fonts, instead of fancy script fonts, I find it quicker/easier just to draw them, like I showed above with the first example.

If you look closely, fonts used for monogramming usually have those extra 'legs' added for visual balance.............so IMO, doing it from scratch, in the first place, alleviates a lot of tweaking time, afterwards.

      • I prefer the envelope docker. Just seems easier for me. I am not sure you will be able to accomplish the design you have posted without a lot of modifications, however.
