My post Why does Corel Draw Graphics Suite X5 feel more like beta software? explains everything im having an issue with X5. In an effort to log the issues with this software, Im asking that if your an X5 User and are having file corruption, crashes, freezes and other such fun stuff happening to you killing your time and money while in Draw or Photopaint, please post it here.
In order to keep it all clean and easy for someone at Corel to follow, please only list issues for X5 and not turn it into a discussion out of topic.
Please, there is no need to try to defend Corel here as Iv used Corel since version 4 (not X4), so thats a long time using it.
Already exists a post with a list of wishes for a service pack, you don't need to create other, is better to post all on the same list
This is not a wish list. Its pretty obvious that it is not as the word wish was never used and is a Bug Report. Your posts Ariel are not a help.
Pleas list any issues in this post. Thank you.
Same exact issue with me. I've used X4 (and other earlier versions) with relatively good functionality. X5 is crashing so much and seemingly so randomly it's maddening at best. The time wasted from lost work, and now trying to find an answer, is setting me so far behind I could scream. I can't believe this is so difficult to address.
Issue(s): CRASHES AT LEAST ONCE DURING EACH WORK SESSION
Solution(s): The old adage "Save early. Save often." has never rang so true as it does with this release. Get used to clicking "Save" after each action (assuming you're lucky enough to open the document) - make it an autopilot response... and pray you weren't distractedly productive enough to forget!
Vista Ultimate 32-bit Service Pack 2, Intel Quad-core 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB (277GB free) HD
If all users have the same program, and some people have problems everyday but most people works fine everyday withouth crashes or other issues... what's the difference? since it's not the computer, I believe is the operating system, or, in other words, how you configure your operating system.
I can say this. Iv tested the X5 issues in Windows 7 64bit, XP SP3 and Vista 32bit on 3 different computers ranging from AMD Athlon64 to Intel Core i7. Same issues without fail. Same crashes and corruptions. 80% of my issues have been with Photopaint so far.
Your Theory is broken for this reason. For many the problems may not exist or crop up all the time since they may not use the programs the same way day to day. They may not use the same tools, open a file, or do the same things that will cause Corel Draw or Photopaint to crash. In my case, I always use the programs the same way and same tools on a daily basis and so they show their faults nearly right away for me. I can crash Photopaint pretty consistently doing not much at all. The same issues show themselves across a variety of setups.
Yesterday, I helped other user to install Windows 7 Ultimate from zero, then install CorelDRAW X5 (the spanish Trial version) and other programs of course. Nothing happens, no crashes, no errors, all old Corel file open and works fine. So,if it's a bug of the program, everytime you install CorelDRAW must have the same issues, and all people must have the same problems. I know, several people have problems, but not all people. And not all people have the same problems... if you read the forum, some people cant´t install, other people can install but can't save, other people can install and can save, but the program is slow; other people has not problem to install, save or work, has not problem with the speed but the program crashes sometimes... I remember two years ago: some people say the same about X4,
As I said before. My main issues have been with Photopaint. Not everyone uses the same tools in Photopaint. So some may Never see the same issues just because they use Photopaint to say, correct color or crop things down. I use Photopaint pretty much for all it can do. I get the same errors clean install or not. I tested this to be the issue under 7 on two different systems with a fresh install originally. That meant with all windows & updates, all driver updates and No other software installed but Corel X5. But Im having the exact same issues on a XP machine a Vista Machine and Windows 7 64 Bit machine. The exact same issues. So how could this be a configuration problem?
See, Some of my files have corrupted just saving them. No other program suffers this issue. I Use my machine also for Cinema 4D Studio and After Effects. Again your theory is flawed. Not everyone is saving the same things. Not everyone is using the same files. Not everyone is using the same tools. Not everyone is working with the same images. So no, not everyone is going to have the same issue all the time, but many have been having the exact same issue with a few things.
X5 is the only app I get out of memory issues even 10 minutes into a project. In fact I dont get out of memory issues with any app but Corel X5 on any computer I own. Plenty of Physical and virtual memory to be used on every machine.
Personally, I'm a certified computer tech and had my own business building and repairing computers for years. I specialized in liquid cooled computer systems. Of the hundreds of computers that I built or repaired, installed software or used software on. X5 has been one of the bulgiest Iv used in many years. why there are so many people so quick to downplay the issues is beyond me. Things are wrong, need to be fixed and stating the issue is one way of having the issue resolved.
I get crashes consistently when resizing paragraph text blocks with text in them. It happened a lot in X4 but in X5 its worse. I have even had it just suddenly quit without warning while saving. That corrupted my file. Thank goodness the backup was relatively recent and only lost some of my changes.
This is a brand new laptop running 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium. The old machine I had was running Vista 32 bit and X4. I have used Coreldraw since version 3 and have a bit of experience with the product. I don't think I can recall any version of CorelDraw that didn't crash...some more than others. X5 is definitely the worst. The features of X5 keep me coming back though. To finally have an eyedropper tool within the color changer docker is worth the pain...for now (same within the gradient tool).
I have also been a Corel user for many years. I found X3 to be the most stable, and X4 became usable with the advent of service pack 2. Although In X4 I started to save big files every few minutes because it also had the habit of suddenly closing when a file got too big and work would also simply disappear. Here I'm talking about files of around 150 MB - a 64 page newsletter.
I have just removed X5 from my machine after a very short trial because it closed when I decided to go into Tools-Options to deselect the cross-hair cursor. I was working on a document brought in from X4 As soon as I clicked Tools-Options my work from the last 15 minutes disappeared. And that was not the first time. I just can't recall what I was doing the first time it happened. The file size was under 1 MB.
Anyhow, it is quite clear that there is something seriously wrong. I consider myself to be a power user. The machine that this happened on is an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.00Ghz with 3.93 GB of RAM running Windows XP 64.
Everything else runs just fine.
I am wondering whether there is anything in the fact that it happened while working on a file it translated from X4 to X5.
I started to work on multiple pages project with Pagemaker, then I migrated to InDesign, and Im still on it.
But I always need to work on Corel multiple pages projects too, because some partners and clients use mostly Corel's software, so I would like make some questions about the way you usually work on Corel's multiple page projects:
- You use external objects linkage (high res images, tables, charts)? Is it stable/trustable? Didn't Corel X5 improved this resource?
- Did Corel X5 fixed that issue about collecting and adding unused and useless styles (I think that this is the reason to the long time needed to open files)?
- From where did you get the installation file?

With CorelDRAW you don't need PageMaker or InDesign for most jobs, specially for magazines, brochures or small books. Only for books or jobs with a lot of text handling is better to use other program, such as Quark XPress, Corel Ventura or InDesign. Years ago, I use PageMaker a lot but since CorelDRAW was better on each version I don't use it anymore. Now, if I must start a file I have no doubts, I use CorelDRAW

Yes, it was improved on X5, btw I still don't want to use external links. Is one of the most common problems with InDesign, when some links are missing or replaced with an incorrect file. And, if you include the file with InDesign, there's no advantadge. CorelDRAW works fine altough you don't use external links. And, about tables, charts and more, you will have other problem, because the original files are on RGB mode, and that cause problems of color when you print on CMYK

CorelDRAW don't collect unused or unwanted styles, but if you open an old file with this problem, the styles comes with this file.

from corel.com of course

I produce a 64 page newsletter (more like a magazine really) most recently using Corel X4. I have also produced a 220 page technical handbook/buyers guide using Corel X3.
I can tell you nothing about what Corel X5 does because I removed it very soon after installing it due to random crashes for no explicable reason.
I'm not sure what you mean about external "linkages". I import high res photographs and other graphic images. They are not "linked" to the external file they came from. (at least not in the way I understand a link)
I usually end up reconstructing tables from scratch in Corel itself because I seldom find a table that I can simply import from elsewhere that suits the layout, quality and legibility I want.
As far as "collecting and adding useless styles" is concerned, if we mean Graphic and Text styles, I don't seem to have that problem in X4. A blank X4 document brings up 9 styles of which three are the Default Artistic text, Default Graphic and Default Paragraph Text. The other 6 are bullet styles. I don't know if they're all default.
I looked in my last 64 page document and admittedly it features 19 text styles which to be honest, I don't even know how some of them got there.
I use Corel only for constructing the magazine. When I send it to the printers I export it via Corels "Publish to PDF" feature and use PDF X-1A format. I have had very few problems doing this. In fact only once was there a misinterpretation on a PDF page that was quick and easy to fix.
I downloaded the latest X5 installation file directly from Corel.
