Installed X5 on laptop but didn't register. Wife stepped on lap and cracked LCD so I can't see screen. I have Westinghouse monitor but it won't work on this laptop. I have new laptop but can't find the install disc. I have removed the hd from the old lap and can read it and access the setup file. It is asking for the serial number. Is there a way to retrieve it?
Is the LCD totally destroyed, or can you see enough to run a program on the old machine?
What is the model of the laptop?
The LCD is totally gone. That is why I tried my external monitor....The old machine is a Dell 1525
I tried the monitor on my new lap and it is working....I just remembered that it stopped working prior to the accident. I thought Ibad a lemon until it worked with the new machine.....I tried using a VGA adapter for the USB port and that hasn't worked either.
The error I'm receiving when using the external monitor is "no signal"
Its more likely to work sticking to the vga ports.
Does the F8 have a symbol on it that looks like a monitor? That would at least confirm that it's the correct key for your model. Fn works like a shift key, so you need to hold it down before pressing F8.
The monitor is likely to take several seconds to recognise the signal -- so you need to wait about 10 seconds between each press of Fn and F8 before pressing them again.
Somehow the monitor came on long enough to capture the serial number. Started the install on new laptop and now receiving missing ica.msi file? Any experience with tis?
I don't know if any of this will help, but the two most (seemingly) helpful answers if found by Googling "ica.msi file missing" were;

Good luck!
