Hi guys,
I use Pantone 186 C as CutContour line in Corel X3 and when I export the file to PDF or EPS the Caldera Visual Rip8 recognizes this line as a Cut line. When I try to do the same in X6 or X7 Caldera doesn't recognize the line anymore.
Any of you have the same problem?
The guys from Caldera sent me a color palette to add to my palettes but it's in .ai format and I can't open it on X7. Do you know any way of converting a .ai palette to a .xml palette?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Paulo
Hello Paulo; if you know the color ( which you do ) then you should be able to add it to the color palette you are using.

You should be able to open an .ai file in X7 but try importing it into an empty page if the open is not working. If you upload it here (or post a link to a file on dropbox etc if it is over 256Kb) , we can check it.
The problem may be that there are now several pantone palettes and it is possible you may need to use the "pantone previous version" palette if they have not updated their software to recognise colours from the current pantone palette.
The other thing to check is to go to the PDF or EPS settings screens and make sure the option to convert spot colours to CMYK is off.
Hi
I believe what you have is a pantone colour defined in and named with an old pantone palette. quite a while ago pantone changed the colour definitions to lab colour for consistency across material and platforms. the same type of issues come up regularly with photoshop and illustrator. it appears that even though defined as spot colors they are effected by color profiles so the are not red the same in some rips even though the name is the same.
we use magenta named as cut contour for that reason same as roland versaworks
just create a colour name it cut contour and use it or map it to the cutting colour in your rip. we use the same colour for vinyl, laser, water jet and engravers across 5 different rips with no problems.

Hi Paulo,
I had real problems with CutContour with X7.
Try opening the Roland Versaworks Palette supplied with CDR and drag the CutContour swatch from there to your default palette.
Is your default palette customized and imported from an older version?
If so try rebuilding the palette in X7 that is what fixed my problem.
Good luck.
The Pantone 186 C (Pantone + v2 Solid Coated series) from X7 is different from the same color on X6 (Pantone + Solid Coated series) and older versions suich as X3 ((Pantone Solid Coated) so you should use the old version (still available on X7)
Also, check if you export as PDF and EPS as "Native" colors or if you are converting to CMYK when export
