Plug-ins and Filters

I've used CorelDRAW for many years. So today I got CorelDRAW X8 installed on my new laptop and started testing how to install filters and plug-ins. They are not showing up either in CorelDRAW or in PhotoPaint.

I generally set up a folder and put my filters in one place then have my links I set up in either to point at the folder or even in side the folders for the plug-ins. There is nothing being seen up till now. I'm going to restart and see, but never had to do that before.

What kind of plugins and filters are you using? Photoshop compatible ones, or are the VBA/VSTA ones? Where did you copy them to? How did you point the app to look in those folders?

They were some older ones which I was using. They may be just too old for this version. They were KPT Collection (came with a version of CorelDraw, SuperBladPro, India Ink (these two by Flaming Pear), Red Prince Whitewash Alpha Channel, transparency eliminate white and black.

I can do most of this other ways. I've downloaded ArtText which I've used before but on my Mac and it does most of the text effects I use plug-ins for, it's great -- only $5.00.

I think the problem stems from something that Corel.com told me to do on the install. I purchased my DVD disk from academeicsuperstore. It would begin installing, give me an error message that I had to uninstall CorelDraw before this version could be installed (but I have a brand new laptop -- Corel products never were installed before). What Corel.com told me to do was to uninstall something in the Microsoft Office suite: Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x64) - 14.0.23918.0 and then after I installed CorelDraw, to reinstall it. They gave me the link and I reinstalled.

The DVD installation still did not work, so I downloaded the trial and used the S/N I got with the disk to register the program. I think there is something about taking that Microsoft item listed above in and out that is being weird. I may have to call Corel.com.

There is a technology gap when it comes to plug-ins. The 32 bit ones don't run (in any) 64 bit application. Perhaps you have a 64 bit version of CorelDRAW installed and only 32 bit plugins?

Your answer was spot on. I found some free 64-bit filters from Flaming Pear to experiment with and they work both in CorelDraw and in PhotoPAINT. I have Photoshop also because I actually only need Acrobat Professional but I got a deal to go for a year in the Adobe Cloud so I took it. One of these free filters worked too.

Although free filters are nothing special, I know I am over the hump and the head banging will be less painful from now on. Many thanks, have a great day!
