I'm trying to paste a cdr file into another cdr file and the quality is hopeless. When I do it with the pdf version of the file it works ok.
are you copy/pasting inside the same version of coreldraw, or down to an earlier version? trying using "paste special" if the latter.

What do you mean with "I'm actually trying to paste within the same folder"? for copy a content of the file you should open both files at the same time on the same version, copy on one and paste on the other, You can't copy a CDR file from Windows Explorer to another document
