Is there any way to install CorelDRAW X3 on Windows 10?
Thanks in advance
I have tried this in December 2020 on W10 Pro. At first it looked like it had worked. Coreldraw and Photopaint were working fine. Then I discovered that the Windows 'Photos' app was not working. After a reboot, the start menu was also not working. Possibly the problems are due to more recently installed updates to W10. Anyway, I ended up having to reinstall W10 and dump the Coreldraw.
As others have attested, some of the methods here that may have worked in the past, do not now. There are 2 issues at play:
1) The installer will not run, and is intercepted by a compatibility checker. Disabling Program Compatibility Assistant does not help. What does work is to temporarily rename the app database in windows that is being used to block access.
I am not holding your hand through some steps, so google how if you need to
- log in as an admin - stop the Program Compatability Assistant service - take ownership of c:\windows\apppatch\msimain.sdb -Give yourself read-write access -rename the file to xmsimain.sdb
Now run the installer as normal- it should not complain,
Before restarting your PC, do step 2 below, otherwise the START menu will not work. If you are in that position, right-click the Start button , choose RUN and type regedit, then follow (2) below
2) The other problem is that following installation, the START menu is broken, but this is an easy fix:
- Run regedit - Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT - Right-click / Permissions. Add the user ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES and give them full control- Hooray - the start menu works again
Don't forget to navigate back to c:\windows\apppatch and rename xmsimain.sdb back to msimain.sdb
The easiest way to fix the ownership issue that you introduced is to run as-administrator a command prompt then
For me in Jan2022 on Win10 Pro, that left me with a working install.
Thank you!!! Been trying forever to get my old Corel X3 working in Win10, and this was the trick! Thank you so much!
