I understand the term and what it's used for but I think I've been interpreting the measurement wrong. Business cards for instance. Most require an "1/8" bleed. So I set my contour to 1/8". I think I should be setting it to 1/16". Is that correct?
In my head I call that a 1/16" bleed instead of 1/8" because I'm think like how the contour tool works.
In the adobe world is it called offset instead? If so would it still be a 1/16" offset?
your page size + 1/8" on left side + 1/8" on right side etc.

Some more findings. We outsource our business cards. We weren't happy with who we were using so we're giving another vendor a try. We've been giving a the previous vendor cards with a 1/8" bleed so a typical finished card of 2 x 3.5 would be sent as 2.25 x 3.75. Now in taking a look at the template used by this new vendor they have the print size at 2.125 x 3.625. I told em it was wrong our they really use on a 1/16" bleed
Didn't want to go there but...And what's with the eps templates? Those are just crop marks.
