Corel 12 Partial Black and White Photos

I desaturated an image of my son and want to enhance the area I erased..his eyes.  I want to put a brighter blue in them.  How do I do this?

I would open the image, the in the Object Docker I would use the LENS.  You find "Lens" in the Object Docker, on the bottom om the docker.

I would via Lens choose either Desaturate (or the new added Gradiant Maps or Photo Filter, if you have X4 version). After that I would pick the ERASER tool in the toolbar. And select the Desaturate object and start erasing.

Iin Photo-Paint X4 in the LENS option you also have the Black & White Lens. This means you dont only have to use Desaturate, but can do even more adjustments with the B&W lens. See attached image below.

Stefan, in PPX4 you can also use the Channel Mixer Lens for this effect.
Either one can produce good results, and either one is infinitely better
than using Desaturate or converting the file to grayscale. For those
wondering why I say these are better than Desaturating or converting to
grayscale, I do have an article about it in the Feb/Mar 2008 Graphics
Unleashed mag (http://www.coreldrawunleashed.com/magazine/) called Black and
White In Color. All your color images are really just a series of grayscale
channels. Each channel has varying amounts of data in them. To desat or
convert the file, you average out the three RGB channels and essentially
throw out 66.6% of the data in the file which you cannot recover.

Using a lens allows you to manipulate the values of the channels in a
non-destructive way. Depending on what you want to achieve, sometimes I find
it useful to use both the B/W lens and the Channel Mixer lens at the same
time, but masking out areas I don't need to manipulate in each lens. You can
get some incredible depth of tones this way.

well, traditionally, meaning "how I did it before X4 :)", to get a good
range of tones, etc, in b/w, I would have had to have split the image into
various channels and used clip masks to show/hide the different portions of
the image to get the different shades of gray. To get an item to pop out in
color, I would take the Freehand Mask tool (k) and mask off the object I
wanted to keep in color, then promote this masked off area to a new object,
apply a clip mask to the new object and erase out what I didn't need.

I was doing a lot of this a few years back for one of the websites I manage;
attached is one of them (I didn't take the photo, just had to work with what
I was given)... it was a PITA to get the b/w levels in something other than
a "flat" range and then I had to cut out all the things I wanted in color
and manipulate them. It would take me hours to get things how I wanted them.

Now, with the b/w lens and/or the channel mixer lens, I just have to get the
b/w tones how I want them (and since they're lenses, I can always go back
and re-manipulate the levels where I couldn't do that with the previous way
I did them). After that, just some quick brush strokes on the lens with
black, white, or varying levels of gray and I'm done. I think the longest
time it took me for one with the new lenses was maybe 15 minutes as compared
to literally 3 hours+.
