I am new to Corel Draw X3. How do you "cut out" people and/or objects from photos?
Thanks!
Breifly, you need to use Photopaint part of the X3 package. you can launch it from within Draw or on its own. Once in Photpaint you can use the selection tools (see the tools palette) or the cutout Lab which is under Image. After you make your selection you can cut or copy the selection and either paste into a new layer or save it to the clip board or paste it a new document.I believe there are turorials that can assist with this that came with X3 or is on the website.
A clip mask is another way to go. It has the advantage of being undoable either in part or in full.
Open your image.
Open your Objects Docker <Window><Dockers><Object Docker>
You can't mask the background with a clipmask. Select the background in the objects docker and hit CTRL D to duplicate it. Select the bottom (background layer) and click the eyeball icon to make the background object invisible so you can see what you are doing.
Select the duplicate and right click and select "Create Clip Mask From Object Transparency"A white box will appear next to the thumbnail in the Object Docker. Select the white box next to your thumbnail.
Select Black as your paint color and use your brush tool to brush away the parts of the picture you don't want. If you make a mistake, select white and paint it back in. As long as you paint on the Clip Mask you are only concealing or revealing parts of your image. You can do this until you are happy with your 'cut out'. This method is nice because, as long as you save as a PhotoPaint File, you can adjust your cut out at any time. It has the added advantage of using a brushes opacity, feathering, sizing, etc to fine tune tough areas like hair, and indistinct borders.
After you are finished, you can export your image sans background to any file format you wish. If you hit CTRL M it will create an alpha channel around your image for use in saving as a TIF or a PNG with transparency enabled.
Good Luck.
