the image is perfectly exposed...if you take a look at your histogram (Image>Histogram) the image covers the entire histogram without blowing out in the highlights or blocking out in the shadows. When you say you've been told your images look dark, is that on your monitor, their monitor, or in print? There's nothing wrong with your image :-)
