Greetings ! I have some files generated by the Company scanner, which decides for itself whether to produce .JPGs or .TIFs. The .TIF files (of hand-written notes) comprise only black pixels on a white background, and the entire area is covered in these dots, at different densities, closer together to represent text. How can I fill in the white background to make solid lines, AND eliminate the scattered black dots elsewhere ? "De-speckle" OUGHT to do it - but it doesn't ! I have had an error: "Internal program error: An invalid parameter has been passed to a function." "Salt-&-Pepper" does away with the dots in the white area, but doesn't fill in between the black dots. What is required is a routine that, given a Radius, investigates each pixel in turn, and if it is black, puts a black line between it and every other black pixel within the given Radius. Or something like that ! Any ideas, Please ?

The Company scanner I use is a networked all-singing, all-dancing Gestetner MPC4500 copier / scanner / fax / printer , see http://www.nrgcss.com/drivers/kbmain.asp?brand=gest&l=en&mdl=330
The options are ".PDF" or ".TIF/.JPG", and if the second is selected, the machine decides which, for each scan !
I guess I'll try putting a small coloured sticker on the platten....

I can set the resolution to 100, 200, 300, 400 or 600 d.p.i. - I usually use 300.
