I've heard a lot of praises for Ventura in the last months. I must admit I have never used it, since I was a PageMaker user who moved to InDesign. Could you people that know Ventura point out for me please the advantages of this programme over InDesign CS2?
1. Better handling long documents.
2. User doesn't need to buy several plugin, extension, etc.
3. Almost every thing is tagged, so style apply to almost every element.
4. Full compatible with Corel Graphic Suite. Including UI and Print Preview.
5. Price.
6. Great utilities as Corel Data Base Publisher, XML Mapping Editor, Spell Utility.
7. After several years of complete abandon, and it is competitive with InDesign and Quark. You should realize what advanced it was years ago, and what advanced it could be with a little attention. Also, the companies that have owned it, have tried to kill it, and it is so good that it doesn't die by its own merits.

1. In which way?
2. For doing what kind of stuff?
4. Does it accept native .cdr files for import?
Mosh said: 1. In which way? InDesign and Quark have problem handling long documents, that is why Frame Maker is still alive. Ventura handle long documents easily. 2. For doing what kind of stuff? Imposition, Tables, Conditions, Equations, Variable Maker, Publish to PDF, HTML, CSS, Multilanguage Dictionaries, Gramatik, and Thesaurus, drawing vector capabilities and conversion to frame, Index Concordance, Text to Table, Table Preset, SML Mapping Editor, Data Base Publisher. 4. Does it accept native .cdr files for import? It does, but I always use CMX. Also you can edit in the application associate to the imported file from within Ventura. For example if you import a PSD file and it is associate to Photoshop, you can edit using Photoshop, but if it is associate to PhotoPaint, you could edit using PhotoPaint.

Except from Publish to PDF, drawing vector capabilities and Index concordance (which InDesign also has without need for plug-ins), sounds pretty impressive. Automatic imposition can be a wonderful tool. I am working on a book, and perhaps -if Ventura's learning curve is not too steep, I might give it a try.
Thanks for the info, Michael.
