Discouraged in CNEWS and here on finding a solution on running Ventura 10 on Vista 64 Bit , I sought a way to install the program anyway.
Create a directory on the desktop, copy the entire Ventura CD into the folder. Select the Setup32.exe file and right click and choose properties. Set compatibility to XP. Check Run as Administrator.
Double Click the file and Ventura installs.
It launches and appears to run but I shall do some more testing.
Hi Rikk,
On Vista Ultimate 64 bit, tried what you did, Ventura 10 ran once perfectly.
The next time I ran Ventura 10, I got a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error.
Program: ... (x86)\Corel\Ventura 10\Programs\ventura.exe abnormal program termination.
This is a real pity, because I love Ventura 10, and I would really like it to work under Vista 64 bit.
Cheers, Jonathan
Well, I am doing slightly better. I did get it to open initially. THen, I got the same message you did. Then, I double clicked on exisitng VP files and they opened. Close them and the error appears on the next opening. I am still working on it.
So far Ventura is the only program not successfully migrated to X64 (I am using Home Premium version )
Give me a couple of days and I will see if I can figure out where it is hanging.
I have. Actually, I am trying combinations of ventura executables in various compatiblity states. There is something about the intitial launch that works and subsequents not. That is a key I have to decipher.
With my new Vista 64 laptop, I have exactly three four things that don't work right.
Ventura
Quicktime (no 64 bit compatible version yet)
VN-2100PC Olympus Voice Recorder
Canon 20D
The latter are missing 64 bit drivers and are obsolete so there's not much hope. I will likely write drivers for the first two based on the 32 bit drivers but Ventura --- That is another animal all together. I would hate to have to use Indezign... it works (anyone listening.) That was a big echo!
Eric, I will do my darndest.
