Ventura v5 on Windows 7 ?

My elderly mother uses and is very happy with Venture v5. But her age and computer skills make moving to another version out of the question. I want to buy her a new PC and my question: Will Ventura v5 run on a 32-bit PC running Windows 7 (not 8, but 7)?. We currently have it running fine on XP, but new machines are no longer available with XP, we have to upgrade to Win 7, hence my wanting to check first that Ventura 5 will run on that OS.
Many thanks.

  • Hello Aidan; If the Venture Ver.5 would run in Windows XP you can get Windows 7 Utl or Pro and then down load the XP mode from MS. Just remember it has to be the Pro or the Ult. ver.

    • Many thanks, George. Indeed, that's a fallback option should we need it, but I would be grateful if anyone knows definitively whether or not V5 will play nicely with Win7.
      Cheers,
      Aidan

      • Aidan I think the question should be will it run in Windows Xp.

        • Aidan --

No one has reported anything on running V5 on Win7 on this forum or the Ventura newsgroups. (I know I would have remembered that!)

That said, if you decide to go with XP Mode, another requirement is that the CPU supports virtualization: many do, but some do not. Here's a link to ensure you get one that does:

Also, XP Mode is the MS way to run a VM on Win7, but there are other (better?) ways. I use VMWare because it supports higher screen resolution and color depth than XP Mode. (And, you can run VMWare without hardware virtualization.)

Here's a couple links to understand the VMWare option:

          • Thanks for your thoughts, guys. The problem is that I'm dealing with an elderly lady who wouldn't notice any difference in screen resolution or colour depth and certainly wouldn't have any chance of running anything that required anything other than double-clicking the icon and up pops Ventura, as she's always been used to doing.

What I'm really looking for is a definitive answer as to whether or not it's possible to run V5 on Win7, without the need for special platforms or tweaks. Eweber, you've come closest to giving me an answer by saying you don't remember anyone reporting anything, but I would still put the question out there; has anyone actually physically tried?
            Chers.

            • Another family member having done the necessary tests, I can now report that indeed Ventura v5 DOES seem to run without issue on Windows 7. This is a 32-bit machine, however. We suspect that it will not run on 64-bit.
And to confirm; it runs without question on 32-bit Windows XP,  we've had it running on an XP machine for some years.

              • Interesting! Thanx for the follow up.
            • I run Ventura 5 in Windows 7 without problems
