As the subject says, I can't turn off Font Embedding.
See attached Screen Caps.
Is anybody else having this problem?
How can I fix this?
This is what I have set in options.
This is my save dialogue.
I can confirm this bug.The "fix" seems to be to uncheck the box on every first save of a document.
Came to think about a solution:You can probably record a macro that automatically disables font embedding when saving.Haven't tried though.
Thanks for the confirmation Ronny, Rather Annoying!
I do not have this behavior. Does this happen with a newly created 2018 document? Are you using the U.S. English version? Are these files from older versions of CD that ay have had embedded fonts?
No David, new document exhibits this behaviour. Yes US English, why would that matter?
Every detail matters, I've seen language versions have failures that are different from each other, the UK version of windows is different from the US version. None of my systems exhibit this behavior. Believe it or not I have a Windows 10 home Toshiba laptop that regularly requires that I pull the battery and unplug it, when I restart it, it behaves normally for a month or two.
When I checked this on a 2018 install, I saw something similar, but different.
Looking at this a bit, the behavior seems to depend on a couple of things in the Registry.
In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\CorelDraw\20.0\Draw\Application Preferences\Options - Advanced there is an entry for EmbedFonts. The value for that seems to change depending on the checkbox in Options>Workspace>Save.
In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\CorelDraw\20.0\Draw\Application Preferences\Options - General there is an entry for EmbedFontsOnSave.
My observation is that, if the value for EmbedFontsOnSave is set to "0", then what I see for the default in the Save dialog box depends on what the setting is in Options>Workspace>Save.
If the value for EmbedFontsOnSave is set to "1" or "2", then what I see for the default in the Save dialog seems to have nothing to do with what the setting is in Options>Workspace>Save. "1" appears to force the default in the Save dialog to "embed fonts", while "2" appears to force the default in the Save dialog to "not embed fonts".
Hahaha, John you are a ledgend.
Changing it to 2 fixed my problem.
I think you deserve the gentleman of the forum award.
Cheers,Chris
You... touched the Registry?
You have SO voided your warranty!
(Thanks for the kind words.)
Now the question is what's the common denominator? Was the registry originally written properly? If not, why not? If it was originally written properly what caused it to change? I never use macros, or font embedding and I use a very minimally modified workspace. Is this a new 2018 install that this function failed immediately. An install whew this behavior started?
If I activate the default workspace, and then do an F8-during-launch to "refresh" it - then I find that there is no EmbedFontsOnSave entry in that part of the Registry at all!
So, when and why that gets created in the Registry - I don't know. I see EmbedFontsOnSave entries for X7 and X8, too.
This is one of those times when it would be really nice to have an answer from someone at Corel who really knows what's going on here. Yeah, dream on!
It's maybe a work space customization issue. WAAAYYY too many of those. Corel needs to install an administrative command where a IT support man can set up multiple seats all the same way and lock out customization. You can have two guys working side by side and not recognize the interface, how do you support that?
There are some simple things that they could do - but haven't - to improve how workspaces are handled.
If a user changes something in the workspace - perhaps by accident - there is no option offered to exit without saving workspace changes, or to directly revert back to the workspace as it was at the start of the session.
If they provided a way to always start with a specified workspace - but not save any session changes to it - that would be an easy way to get a lot of what you would like to have in the way of uniform user experience.
