I'm starting to think that the Corel DRAW X5 & Corel PHOTO-PAINT X5 crashes and "slowness" so many seem to experience are related to the Protexis Licensing Service (arvato digital services) errors.
Is this a problem Corel can resolve? Maybe not?
Everyone on this forum should take a look at their event log and should they find any errors related to Protexis they should complete the Customer Support form on the Protexis website:
http://www.protexis.com/support/user_contact_form.htm
Who knows, this could possibly help resolve some X5 issues, for more information on the Protexis Errors visit my Blog at:

@Ariel: There was no Trial version installed bevor, but Corel X3 (we bought the Upgrade version). I did the activation right after the installation. So this could not be the reason. Saving and exporting in other formats (eg. TIFF or CPT) works normally. Now i discovered, that export to GIF also results in a crash...
I'm now seeing a number of Protexis Licensing Service errors in my Vista 32-bit Log as well (dozens). I bought the boxed version of Draw X5 upgraded but installed the download version to get it faster. I also have X3 and X4 installed on this machine.
I have the same problems with Protexis errors. My log file shows a string of these errors coincident with Photopaint X5 crashing. I have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Also have 12 GB of RAM. Below is the error I get in my log when Photopaint crashes:

I get two types of error, 17 & 49
error 49 - Failed to Release Mutex Error ID = Returned Error 288error 17 - Service DLL PsiKey_2.dll was not found.
But I don't have any issues with X5 crashing - as yet.
see my sig for computer specs.
Boy am I glad we didn't rush out and upgrade.. I thought there may be issues. Anytime the software gets an overhaul it's often buggy.. I guess mutli process support etc. is a big jump..
