I have recently upgraded from X4 to X5 and while when I first installed it I was able to click on a bitmap and get CorelPhotoPaint to launch - it now says Failure to launch server application. I have tried the F8 tip while opening both Paint & Draw, repairing the installation (from both the hard drive and the disk), and removing and reinstalling. I used to have X4 and even X3 on my system but have removed both of those versions. And yes, I have associated the files although within Corel the ticked boxes do not seem to stay put. I am at the end of my tether - any tips?
Does it work if photopaint is already open when you right-click on the image?

I had at various times had Paint open and it didn’t work by right-clicking or using the menu item. When I just opened both applications this morning after reading your question – it worked! You are magic! I had reinstalled last night and it still wasn’t working which was why I had posted the issue.
That is at least a temporary solution, though it is still not completely as it should be if you still cannot do the same when photopaint is not open.
My next test would be to save something from photopaint as a CPT file, close photopaint and see if photopaint launches if you double click on the CPT from windows explorer.
I will try that - thanks. As this was an unexpected turnaround i realize that this is not totally satisfactory.
I am not sure which version of WIndows you are using, but in this case, with Windows XP I can set up Corel PHOTO PAINT as default for opening such files:
I am using Windows 7 and I did associate all the files with Draw and Paint so they opened in the correct programs.
I have the same problem, anybody can help me? What's the problem with Corel X5? Any suggestion to fix it?When I click on Edit bitmap, the message is: Unable to launch server application. And it doesn't open Corel Photo Paint.
When I open Corel Photo Paint and try to save a picture, I can't do this, it's freezing.
Any idea to fix it?I tried to reinstall, the F8 button, neither of them works.
I have win7 (32), Corel X5.
Hello helloszeged; If PP is on a server I would look at the server to find a answer.

I'm going to ask the obvious here, so forgive me. But did you install all of the updates after installing Corel?
Corel works as expected for me, so there has to be something different about your setup. Running off a network or not having all the patches are the only things I can think of off the top of my head.
