Thanks to the excellent install directions on this forum and the Ventura FAQ, I have Ventura 10 running in Windows 7 64-bit. But I cannot print Open Fonts to the printer or to Acrobat Professional. Has anyone had success using Open Fonts? Or is it out of the question? (I do transfer the file to an XP laptop and print from there).
I understand that the mfc42.dll is a piece of the C++ programing system, Version 6. Can we use a later version of C++ and get better results? I would appreciate it if anyone could enlighten me in these areas, I'm sure no programmer. Thanks!
I have discovered, only very recently, that I can successfully print OTFs to PDF iff I print via Microsoft Print To PDF.A Ventura document that comes out only as blank pages using Acrobat X Pro will print perfectly, to my eyes anyway, using the Microsoft printer.
I hope this helps,David
PS A huge thank you to everyone involved with the Ventura FAQ for sharing information that has enabled me to get Ventura up and running in Windows 10 x64!
Today MS have released an update, KB4340917, which, among other things, "addresses an issue that prevents OTFs from printing in Win32 applications".
So far I have just now tried printing a Ventura 10 document directly to my Canon printer, successfully. The font used was Alegreya which is Open Type - Postscript and everything printed fine. Yay!
The bad news is that Microsoft Print to PDF has stopped working, printing to Adobe Acrobat still doesn't work, and likewise Ventura's Publish to PDF. I think the Microsoft Print to PDF is probably fixable - that will be the next job!
I reinstalled Microsoft Print to PDF and it now works with Ventura 10 and OTFs in Windows 10 64 bit. It 'chose' to use the port PORTPROMPT: rather than PDF: and if it is happy with that and it's working, I'm not going to touch it!
Hope this helps...
Just a quick clarification question: how do you get OTFs to even show up in Ventura 10? All I see are TTFs and T1s. Otherwise the program runs great in Window 10/64 bit. And have you tried printing to file with a generic Postscript printer driver? I use a "Xerox PS Driver" and it works well with the T1 and TTF fonts.
I didn't really do anything to make OTFs show up in Ventura, they were just happily there. They aren't listed explicitly as OTFs though. As an example, the OTF, Adobe Garamond Pro, is listed as a T1 font in Ventura, as are my other OTF fonts (and the fonts are only on the computer in OTF format). I don't know what's going on, but it all seems to work!Maybe the attached screenshots (from Ventura and Corel Font Manager) might confirm this, or otherwise...And thanks for the tip about using a PS printer driver - I'll give it a try!
