When using Corel X5 I have had a lot of problems using linked images.
I have tried saving the suspect files (which is every one I work on) as X4 and opened it in X4 to test. All of the files output in a matter of minutes. If I then open the same file in X5 it hangs again. This leads me to believe that it is X5 that is causing the problem.
I am running Windows 7 on a 32 bit system with 3.00 Gb of Ram and a Tb hard drive.
Help
That needs to be checked out in depth and you need to zip all the files and put them on a server where they can be accessed. If you don't have access to a server then use Drop Box. You will need to keep it under 2GB to do that.
Yani
Thanks Yani, I will upload all files and will post the link when done.
Cheers, Darren
Thanks for all your help Yani. It was a clean file that I sent you but I must have transferred some corrupt data. I like your method of 'working safe' and will certainly adopt this for all future projects. Just can't afford to have corrupt data such as this.
Have a great day and thanks again.

That is exactly it. Been there too many times. 12 was the worst at creating big files that then wouldn't output as PDF.
If that was a clean file then make another doing the same process. You have SP2 in place? There might be something going on that needs a fix.
And I think you should get that macro off Jeff for the $20 from member it had a lot of features for updating the links.
I don't like the linking being based on absolute locations as it is in that dialogue nor the inability to update all links if you move the location of the bitmap folder. There is scope for Corel to improve this. I've been asking for years for Corel to make the linked file previews resolution settable.
If you can track down where the error is coming from I'll write a bug report.
Thanks Yani, I will do a bit of investigation and see if I can locate the source of the bug. Will let you know if I find anything.
So I put up with the issue of massive file sizes using linked images and along comes Corel X6.
Installed and same damn problem. I have just created a file, 32 pages with one externally linked image on each page. Guess what. The file is in excess of 956Mb.
Can anyone explain what is going on here? There is an obvious but that has been overlooked in the past 2 versions of Corel Draw.

Whoa!! I have noticed that X6 files are even more compressed than they were in X5.
Can you elaborate a bit on file details. Or may be a snapshot of Document properties dialog? Something must be horribly wrong I guess.
I am working on a book that has 212 pages (8" x 10") with 42 300dpi CMYK unlinked images and as you can see in attachment, the file size is about 73 MB.
Thanks for your reply. I will have to grab a screen shot later as I have just closed the file. Currently sitting at 1.234 gb
I have been experiencing this problem for quite some time, since x5 and have not been offered a solution by anyone.
All I can elaborate on is the following.
All images are 300dpi and are externally linked to the document
The document has 42 pages with one image on each page
There is not much else in the document other than a few bits of text
All linked files are located on a network drive (maybe this is the issue)
I am running Corel x6 on a windows 7 pc with 3tb of raid 5 storage.
This is crippling as the time it takes to work on any documents in Corel is creating a strain on our business.
Help, anyone.
